Advice and guidance on the practical issues of working with children and young people
It can sometimes seem that there are a lot of procedures and regulations when working with children and young people. This section explains the practicalities of working with children and young people and gives advice and guidance.
There are a number of different planning frameworks within Local Authorities and the Welsh Assembly Government that relate to work with children and young people. It is useful to understand the purpose of these frameworks and how they link together, so you can understand how the work you are doing fits into these frameworks. There are also things already in place, such as Youth Forums, to give young people a voice. You could consider linking into these so that you get help from groups of children and young people that are already in place. However, all these different things can sometimes seem a bit confusing, so click here to access our easy to understand guide to frameworks and also find out about other participation forums!
There is also the issue of how to show young people that you appreciate their efforts and how you can reward their involvement. This can be done with lots of praise. Also, if they give lots of their time to help you, if appropriate you can give one off rewards to young people for example with gift vouchers, a group trip or something for their school or youth club.
