Training 'continued
In this section a Child Rights Training Module for adults is included. As with the Child Poverty training module it comes with guidance notes to help deliver it.
Ideas for getting people to come to training:
- Go to them, don't ask them to come to you. Hold the training during a meeting the group has already planned.
- Fit the times and venue around the participants (if you are encouraging people with children to come, fit the training within school hours)
- Provide child care if necessary and if you can (some Local Authorities may have services which can help with this)
- Provide refreshments for the participants. Have a range of choices.
- Find incentives relevant to your target group. For example, sometimes volunteers are keen to receive certificates or accreditation.
- Reward people who do take the time to take part. Local residents and volunteers appreciate being thanked for giving up their own time. If they have taken part in a number of training days throughout the year, organise an awards evening when people receive their certificates (everyone can get dressed up and you could have a awards ceremony)
- If you are trying to get local workers (from community organisations or the local authority) to participate, sometimes it can be effective to go to the line manager and try and persuade them to insist all their workers take part in the training.
